AI vs art: Print age exhibition challenges digital dominance, defends human touch
Uday and Sunaina Jain of Dhoomimal Gallery are presenting Print Age, a major survey of printmaking that examines the medium’s relevance in the era of artificial intelligence. The exhibition runs alongside the 17th edition of the India Art Fair and is open to the public from 4 February to 15 March 2026.
Tracing printmaking from prehistoric cave handprints to contemporary digital practices, the exhibition highlights the enduring value of manual skill and experimentation. While AI-generated imagery is reshaping visual culture, Print Age argues that traditional processes continue to hold meaning. The show features 156 prints by 80 artists, ranging from international figures such as Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall to leading Indian printmakers including Laxma Goud and Jyoti Bhatt, alongside emerging practitioners.
The preview was attended by several noted guests from the art and cultural community. Works have been drawn from important private and institutional collections in Baroda, Ahmedabad and Delhi, as well as the Dhoomimal Gallery collection.
Uday Jain, Director, Dhoomimal Gallery, said, “Today, collectors are beginning to understand not only the historic but also the material value of limited-edition prints by established master printmakers. For many years already, Dhoomimal has supported emerging artists through the Ravi Jain Memorial Foundation awards as well as by promoting printmaking through exhibition.”
Curator JohnyML added, “We have an extensive, and an often ignored, history of printmaking in India. Our visual landscape has been shaped by print culture over the centuries and this exhibition draws from the many significant private and institutional collections… Also included are those new works created by younger artists.”
