To mark the first death anniversary of Pt Birju Majaraj, SPIC MACAY and Sneh Bharti Trust got together to organise a dance concert on Tuesday. In remembrance of Birju Maharaj and his insurmountable contribution to Indian classical dance and music, the concert witnessed performances by Arushi Mudgal (Odissi), Ragini Chandrashekar (Bharatnatyam) and Gauri Diwkar (Kathak).
The event, which was also webcast live across the world, was attended by a number of artistes, foremost disciples and many family members of Pt Birju Maharaj. Among those who were present on the occasion were Kathak exponent, Shovana Narayana as the chief guest, Hindustani vocalist Sajan Mishra, Odissi guru Madhavi Mudgal, Kathak guru Pt Rajendra Gangani, Kathak exponent and senior disciple of Birju Maharaj Shashwati Sen, Kathak guru Pt Jai Kishan Maharaj, son of Birju Maharaj and Kathak dancer Shinjini Kulkarni, granddaughter of Birju Maharaj.
