Fashion knows no boundaries and students of a reputed fashion institute were out to prove just that. Showcasing the essence of diverse textiles and fabric with thematic music in background, an eclectic fashion show, Spectrum 2018, was organised recently at SK Memorial Hall. Themed ‘launchpad,’ the two-day event saw a confluence of several programmes related to art, culture, literature and sport.
The theme encouraged students to come out of their shells and showcase their hidden talent in front of the crowd.
Events galore
Participants performed different dance forms such as hip hop, belly dance, contemporary and classical — all decked up in colourful costumes with proper accessories and props. Himani, a student of the institute, said, “Besides other competitions, an oratorical competition in both in English and Hindi was organised, where students were given a minute to speak on themes like man and machine, cost of corruption and so on. The views that we got to hear were interesting.”
The nukkad show
Street Corner or Nukkad was another interesting event held on the college premises during the first half of Day 1. Tanvi, another college student, said, “It is based on different themes like LGBT rights, menstrual hygiene, superstitions, economic crisis of Indian peasants and other social issues. Altogether, seven groups from seven different departments participated in this show.”
Guest performances
In the evening, well-known Sufi singers from Hyderabad, Ustad
Amjad Ahmed Khan Warsi and Ustad Asad Ahmad Khan, mesmerised the crowd with their soulful renditions. On behalf of the institute, Sanjay Shrivastava felicitated them with artworks made by the students as token of love.
Highlights
The event concluded with the main highlight of this fest – a grand fashion show by the students. Participants of the fashion show walked the ramp draped in khadi, western and ethnic wears.
Mehul Kumar, a student, said, “Around 50 students of the fashion designing department worked hard to make the show a success. We all are happy that people enjoyed so much.”
Noted judges
Judging the event were Ujjwal, director and choreographer, Navneet Kumar, model cum actor and Sandeep Murmur, a final-year student, who is also a gold medalist. Besides, Deepa Labh, Gunjan Kumar, Satyendra Mishra, Hemant, Satish Raj and Naresh were among the faculty members who also judged the show on the basis of each student’s performance, originality of ideas, quality of content, verbal and visual representation, overall impact etc.
Director speaks
Sanjay Srivastava, director of the institute, congratulated the students for putting up a grand show. “We are happy that we have organised such a grand fest, which invited students from all the big colleges of Patna. This year, Spectrum intruduced one final-year student among the judges. It was a token of appreciation for the student’s good performance all throughout his stint in the institute,” he said.
