City art gallery honours art legends with lifetime achievement awards
The Ganges Art Gallery, Kolkata on November 27, felicitated Professor Jogen Chowdhury, renowned art critic; Professor Ganesh Haloi, and Pranab Ranjan Ray with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution to Indian Arts.
The three stalwarts have been living and working in Kolkata for more than six decades and have garnered international fame.
Addressing Jogen Chowdhury as one of the greatest figurative artists, Smita Bajoria, the founder-director-owner of the art gallery said, “Early on in his career and more specifically after his return from France in the late 60s, he developed his individual style which is intensely personal. This can be understood as a natural consequence of his affinity with the organic energies of life manifested in nature and an incisive observation of life around. His art manifests an intimate world where human psyche and the social reality are interwoven into a silent, yet tense drama.”
