Sand Sculpting Contest
, organised by the
Sathyabhama University in association with
Fisheries Department of Tamil Nadu
brought together nearly 500 sculptors from various colleges, schools and corporate organisations.
Of course, the aim of the event was to raise awareness about saving our oceans and keeping our beaches clean. During this time of the year, olive ridley sea turtles generally come to lay eggs. Beaches along Chennai coast see a lot of turtle nesting, starting from early February. This event was held as a part of the Save a Turtle campaign. And the contest was held based on the theme ‘Turtles and Seashore’.
Five turtle facts- Turtle lays between 60 to 160 eggs at a time.
- Male turtle never comes to land.
- Turtle have been in earth for 150 million years.
- Turtles are the gardeners of the ocean.
- Turtles return to the same place where it was born to lay eggs.
