Love songs, it seems, have endless appeal and charm.
That perhaps explains why hundreds gathered inside a store at a crowded shopping mall recently. It was the occasion of the release of A R Rahman collector’s edition pack of his tracks from Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. And the music-mad crowd that had gathered went crazy on seeing their favourite singers — Karthik, Naresh Iyer, Chinmayi and Blaaze — in person.

What’s more, when the creator of the film — Gautham Menon — walked in, the crowd went into a tizzy.
“VTV’s subject was inspired by several love stories I’ve seen,” said the filmmaker on the occasion, “But more importantly, it was Rahman’s music that gave my subject shape. It was an honour working with him on this project.” After a bit of persuasion, the filmmaker crooned a couple of lines from Hosanna.... Singer Chinmayi praised her colleague Naresh Iyer, stating, “His self-confidence is what I like best about him.” Rapper Blaaze got the crowd cheering as he veered into a few lines from Omana Penne... which didn’t feature in the original album.
