A play about relationships between the elderly, the young and the not so `elderly, Zindgi Retire Nahin Hoti is being staged by GS Channi at Tagore theatre on September 28. Channi is trying to give the message that, retirement is an important point in the lives of people and has been marked as a ‘happening’ in a person’s life that can accelerate the on set of health problems related to old age. However, life does not end at retirement. All our problems do not start at old age.The seeds have been sown much earlier when the banal nine to five routine, the security blanket of a position, a designation and a regular salary obliterate all thoughts of tomorrow.
It is a common story. The warm blood of youth cannot perceive the experience of the sense of dispossession and increasing feeling of helplessness, of the old.The elderly, in their turn demand their `pound’ on the strength of tradition. We forget to reach out, to care and understand. That’s life!
Zindgi Retire Nahin Hoti
takes a humorous look at this phenomenon. It is performed in the interactive theatre mode. The play is molded in the stylized tradition of Brechtian genre, juxtaposing two realities of the young and the “not so young” -together it makes a realistic non-partisan world.
