With patent and copyright becoming important, efforts are on to make professionals from various fields aware of the issue. The idea behind the drive is to sensitise them about Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). On Saturday, Panjab University witnessed a session which saw members of teaching fraternity coming together to learn about the topic in detail.
The faculty of PU and and CRIKC institutions, Chair-IPR (PU) and DST- Centre for Policy Research (CPR) collaborated for ‘IPR Workshop: Patents and Copyrights. The event was done under the faculty development programme. The session saw experts talking about the importance of use of Intellectual Property (IP) information for deciding research themes in universities and research laboratories.
Raghavender, joint secretary, department of justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, New Delhi talked about the issues pertaining to copyrights and importance of its registration. He emphasised on the fact that there is a need of effective science communication mechanism to disseminate the science knowledge amongst the masses.
The participants deliberated on the importance and significance of patents and copyrights and how they can play a crucial role in enhancing economical and intellectual prestige of an institution. The speakers emphasised on the fact that, researchers should not publish their findings in the public domain before filing a patent.
