PU commemorates Kargil Vijay Diwas with tree plantation drive
Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Panjab University recently organised various activities on its campus. The Department of Defence and National Security Studies collaborated with horticulture department of the university and organised a tree plantation drive. Peepal, Bargadh and Neem trees were planted and dedicated to the warriors of Kargil. Several persons were present on the occasion, including faculty members, serving officers from the armed forces, research scholars, and the students.

They planted 527 saplings of different varieties at various places inside the university. All 527 saplings are dedicated the martyrs of Kargil.
Also, a panel discussion on the theme, ‘Kargil War: Lessons Learnt’ was held at the ICSSR seminar hall. Vishal Batra, twin brother of Kargil hero Capt Vikram Batra, and Lt. Gen KJ Singh participated in the event as panelists along with PU VC, Prof Raj Kumar. Lt Gen PM Bali, chief of staff, Western Command, Chandimandir, was also present on the occasion.
