India’s longest walk-in aviary at Chhatbir Zoo opens
India’s longest walk-in aviary was inaugurated at Mahendra Zoological Park, aka Chhatbir Zoo, here on May 9. The aviary, will house 43 species of birds. The aviary has five enclosures themed variously. Terrestrial has terrestrial birds like Rose Ringed Parakeet, Alexandrine Parakeet, Cattle Egret, White Ibis, etc.

The Rock and Duck houses aquatic birds, migratory ducks, spot-billed duck, comb duck, black swan and lesser whistling duck.

The woodland theme has Sarus crane, bush quail, black partridge and common house sparrow. While the Japanese trail theme has a pair of Sarus cranes besides Jungle Babbler, red jungle fowl, red-wattled lapwing. The aviary hs been created for exotic species such as diamond dove, grey cocktail, zebra finches and budgerigar.
