Several ‘Save Environment’ and ‘Green Diwali’ campaigns took place prior to the festival with an aim to sensitise people about the health and environment issues. Recently, during an ‘Anti-cracker Green Diwali drive’ organised by Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) and NGO Yuvsatta, 1500 students took part.
While encouraging people to observe cracker-free
Diwali was the main thought behind the campaign, the students discussed alternatives to celebrate the festival of lights.
Using earthen lamps, green plants were few ideas floated to change the flavor of Diwali. Also, a street play ‘Green Diwali-Happy Diwali’ was staged on the occasion, followed by a green-quiz. TC Nautiyal, member secretary of CPCC said, “Metallic salts are used to produce light of different colours in the fire crackers.
