Chandigarh Times Fashion Week presents an ode to tradition and glamour
Nirwana Square One presents (IIFD) Indian Institute of Fashion & Design Chandigarh Times Fashion Week, powered by Senco Gold and Diamonds and Rock & Storm on September 16 at Radisson Red Chandigarh Mohali, paid a tribute to India’s ethnic wear weaved in contemporary glamour.
From life under sea, intricate space-age, repurposing of materials… the thematically-done designer collections covered various aspects of the earth and beyond.
The second half of day one started with Lovely Professional University School of Design (Fashion design and technology). The collection was around dreams taking the centerstage. It highlighted vibrancy in dark colours, with flowing silhouette, harem pants paired with western style blouse, etc. Also the collection was themed around Arabic attire with one of the models flaunting a Tunisian Chechia (a flat-surfaced, traditional red woollen hat). The collection was titled, Eclat Élève, a dazzling spectacle of creativity and innovation. It was created by their budding fashion designers. Eclat Élève pushed the boundaries of fashion, inspiring the industry with fresh perspectives. From avant-garde couture to sustainable fashion, the students redefined style, challenging the status quo.
Post this, it was designer Simple Kaur, who showcased elegant Punjabi attire fused with western trends. The attire was inspired by the outfits popular in the hinterland of Punjab. The show stopper was RJ Meenakshi. Simple said, “It’s a celebration of the indomitable spirit of women around the world.” Her collection of stories showcased the strength, resilience, and unwavering determination of women. “We used aged brocades and Banarasis for our collection in colors relevant to the scene.”
Last round of the evening was YES BANK presents Joy Mitra. It was a spirit of tradition and festivals as the collection had Jhoomar embodying Banarasi weaves, silks and georgettes along with Joy Mitra signature embroideries in an array of bright colours. Mitra said, “A touch of Bengal is inevitable and unmissable. It was a different type of fusion.” Yes Bank was the presenter of the round. The showstoppers were actors Jasmine Bajwa and Mahi Sharma. The collection was paired well with bindi and gajra. The heavy jewellery was in tandem with the colour of the fabric.
