Cleanliness drive, bicycle rally on Martyrs' Day

marked the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi in Chandigarh to motivate people to contribute to the country's cleanliness mission. Students dressed up as

to carry forward his message of cleanliness and highlight the importance of clean air and solar energy. More than 300 children from the Eco Club of St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School marched from the Garden of Springs in Sector 53 to War Memorial in Sector 3. NGO Yuvsatta, Foswac, and the UT environment department were joint organisers of this event.


Nearly 250 students from various schools came out for a bicycle rally called 'Pumping the Pedals for Solar Chandigarh'. The rally from the Open Hand monument to Parade Ground in Sector 17 was flagged off with the slogan 'Go Solar, Save Polar'. The Swachh Bharat flag handover was also organised to highlight the idea of sustainability in Gandhiji’s teachings.
