Around 500 students from various schools across Chandigarh visited Chhatbir Zoo and

Sukhna Lake

as a part of activities being planned to commemorate

World Wetland Day

The event was done by UT’s department of environment along with an NGO, Yuvsatta. At the zoo, environmentalist Kulbhushan Kanwar elaborated on the variety of animals, birds and reptiles there. The inquisitive students asked the experts about the life of animals. Later, they went to Sukhna Lake’s regulator end area and spotted birds, including

bar-headed goose

, ruddy shell duck, tufted duck, common coot, etc. Debendra Dalai, director of department of environment said that the World Wetland Day this year had a theme of ‘Wetland and Climate Change’.
