Birdwatching event enhances students' knowledge

The fortnight-long migratory

birdwatching

tours came to an end recently. The event saw school students getting to know more about behaviour and visiting pattern of migratory birds. The tours which were organised at the regulator end of

Sukhna Lake

had many students taking part. Abdul Qayum, deputy conservator of forests, said, "Around 1000 young children were sensitized through this programme about the important role birds play." He added that the annual migration of hundreds of migratory birds to Sukhna Lake is one of the nature’s most energetic and phenomenon.
The students saw birds like bar-headed goose, red-crested pochard,

common pochard

, tufted duck, ruddy shelduck etc. Most of the birds came after covering thousands of miles from Siberia, Afghanistan, Tibet, Europe, Magnolia and China.
