On the occasion of the 35th foundation day of the

Odisha Urdu Academy

, a tri-lingual

Kavi Sammelani

was organised in which eminent scholars, academicians, poets and shayars recited their poems as well as some popular poems of legends like

Mubaraq Hussein Salamat’s bi-lingual poem ‘Aame Odishabasi’ in Odia and Urdu gave goosebumps to the audience while Gountia Mohmmad Jamiulla’s two short poems ‘Jaha Tumar Marzi’ in Odia and ‘Ek Wo Alam Tha’ in Urdu evoked thunderous claps. Kudrat Alli Kudrat recited legend Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s Hum Dekhenge and its Odia translation. Abdul Oshid Khan’s poem on farming in India not only got a lot of appreciation but also brought tears to many audience members.


“It’s a unique opportunity to recite poems in Urdu, Hindi and Odia. This is a great attempt to break language barriers and bring languages close to each other. I am happy to recite my poem here,” said Oshid Khan.

On this occasion, a meeting was held in which officials of the Odia Language, Literature and Culture department attended and meritorious students of Urdu language were also felicitated and provided with scholarships.
