lovers in the city yesterday had a different experience of being part of an innovative theatre demonstration. As part of
site-specific
theatre demonstration, artistes used a real location that suits the story’s narration or script, to stage the play.
Around 35 people attended this early morning theatre performance at an open space near
Khandagiri
hills and were mesmerised seeing such an out-of-the-box theatre performance being staged by a group of youngsters.

, is based on a story related to
Covid-19
and how the family of a sex worker is affected due to this pandemic. We to stage it as a site-specific theatre performance. We chose a location taking its abilities and possibilities that fit to the script.Our actors were trained accordingly about the use of the space in their performances,” said

,director of the play.
They were hosted by eminent theatre personality
Surya Mohanty, who helped the team stage this play and guided them using his long theatre experience. As per the team, it’s basically a post-quarantine theatre demonstration. People who are interested in modern theatre had been invited to watch the performance.
A master's degree holder in performing arts, Satpathy said that after the Covid restrictions lifted, they started their theatre practice. “As part of our practice, we searched for literary works and found a story titled, Matira Mrutyu, from a monthly magazine. It’s written by Kashinath Nandi. After our voice and speech session, and all my students shared their thoughts, we decided to go for the site-specific theatre demonstration of this play,” he added.
