Mexico

, the film bagged awards in the Best Feature Film, Best Director and Best Actress categories at the
7 Colours Lagoon Bacalar International
Film Festival in Bacalar, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Snehasis told us that actress
Gargi Mohanty
won the Best Actress award. “They have sent me the certificates and mementos,” he added.
The film is based on the rising sea level and displacement of a fishing community from coastal Odisha. “It’s about a romance sprouting at a time of climate change and global warming, where an affected community has to fight against sea-level rise. Set on the backdrop of such a sensitive climate issue, the film deals with a different kind of love story, where the protagonist has to save his community and his birthplace to win back the love of his life,” said the director.
The 7 Colours Lagoon Bacalara International
Film Festival
aims to promote human artistic expression in films, music, art, movement, nature, drama, comedy, noir and environmental issues. Snehasis’s film was screened in the last week of July at the Casa de la Cultura in Bacalara.
The director told us that the film has also been adjudged the Best Feature Film on Climate Change 2019 at the Tulum World Environment Film Festival. “They have informed me informally and will make the official announcement in November ahead of the award ceremony,” he said.
Along with Gargi Mohanty, the film also features Linkan Pattnaik, Bhaswati Basu, Dharitri Khandual and others.
