Talking about the news, the filmmaker said that earlier a film had to release in some theatres in the USA and must run for two-weeks to be eligible to enter into the race. “Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, theatres are closed in Los Angeles and New York this year. So, we had to go digitally as per the procedures. Now, the movie is made available at the Academy Screening Room and will be viewed by the academy members for votes and nominations,” said Panda.

As an entry into the 93rd Oscar awards race in the general entry category, it would compete for best picture, best actor, best director and many other categories. Kalira Atita (Yesterday’s Past) was earlier screened in the prestigious International Film Festival of India (

IFFI

)- 2020 last month. The film has Pitobash Tripathy playing a vital role. The movie is about the disappearing of villages in Odisha on the eastern coasts of India due to climate change, global warming and resultant sea level rise.
