As the 32nd

National Road Safety Awareness

Month is being observed everywhere, concerned agencies and government departments get innovative to create awareness among common people as well as among their staff. The government-run city bus service,

MoBus

, took the help of mythological characters to educate its crew and commuters about the basic rules related to road safety today.

Three crew members of the bus service dressed up as

Yamraj

and

Chitragupta

, and took a ride on various routes of MoBus. Seeing the god of death and his registrar of Karma, the passengers as well as the bus captains were in for a surprise.


The mythical characters sensitised the crew members to wear seat belts, halt at designated stops, avoid drunken driving and talking on mobile phones while on duty. The drivers were also asked to maintain lane discipline. The travelers were also requested to report about any traffic violation by the bus staff.


“We regularly counsel our drivers about the

traffic rules

before they go on their duty. Obeying traffic norms should be the responsibility of all concerned. As part of the road safety awareness month, this is a drive, we are carrying out to disseminate the message differently,” said Dipti Mahapatro, general manager,

Capital Region Urban Transport

(CRUT), the special purpose vehicle created under the

Housing and Urban Development

Department to operate the bus service..

MoBus has been the lifeline of public transport in the city with a fleet of 169 buses playing on 25 routes with a daily footfall of around 85,000 in the post pandemic period.
