)-2020 is going to pay homage to two doyens of Odia cinema and theatre, Bijay Mohanty and Ajit Das, by screening their films at the event that’s going to be held at Goa between January 16 and24. Bijay Mohanty’s first film

and Ajit Das’ Tara will be screened at the 51st edition of the festival.



Director of Tara, Bijaya Jena informed that the film would be screened on January 20 evening. That’s Ajit Das’ birthday also. “The IFFI officials called me and asked about screening of Tara that had won National award in 1992. They have decided the date January 20, which is his birthday. The festival is also screening Bijay Mohanty-acted Chilika Teerey that had won National award,” said Jena.


Both Bijay Mohanty and Ajit Das were alumni of

National School of Drama

. While Bijay succumbed to a prolonged illness, at 70, on July 20 last year, Ajit Das died of Covid-19, at 71, on September 13 last year. Both of them were associated with theatre and were teaching at

Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

.

The 51st edition of IFFI also pays homage to legendary Odia filmmaker Manmohan Mahapatra by screening his last film Bhija Matira Swarga.
