The

theatre

lovers of Bhubaneswar were recently treated to a unique experience when a city-based theatre group performed a Hindi play at

Bhanjakala Mandap

. Titled

Park

, the play is written by renowned Hindi theatre director, actor, scriptwriter and filmmaker Manav Kaul and Bhubaneswar-based theatre troupe Jeevan Rekha staged the play here. Director of the troupe,

Abhinna Routray

, has designed and directed this play that garnered a huge applause and appreciation from the audience.

Calling it a movement in the city that has always witnessed Odia plays besides occasional plays in Hindi or other languages by troupes from outside the state, Routray said that there were demands from theatre lovers to make Hindi plays here, which can also go outside the state. “Since we regularly perform plays at various platforms across the country, we felt it would be great if we can produce plays in Hindi. That will help audience outside the state accept things in a better way. It was our attempt and we hope other theatre troupes will also take up such things,” said the veteran theatre personality.
Though the play didn’t have many actors, young artistes

Dipanwit Dasmohapatra

and Radha Krushna turned it into an excellent watch with their spectacular acting skills. “We made a few changes to the story written by Manav Kaul. It was our experiment and we hope it ticked well,” said Routray.
Independent filmmaker Amartya Bhattacharyya, who was among the audience to watch the play, was all praise for the young actors. “The play had several moments of excellence in its one-act structure. The ending was brilliant. It was splendid play,” said Amartya.
