Speaking to us, Amartya said the festival had a great line-up with the central theme of Courageous Cinema. He told us that Runanubandha has also been selected as one of the two Indian feature films at the 17th Oakland International Film festival, which will be held in September this year.

The film, which explores a daughter’s search for her father in Kolkata, has been screened at several international film festivals in the past one year after premiering at the International Competition section of the 24th

Kolkata International Film Festival

last November. The film was shot entirely in Kolkata and portrays the city in a unique way, capturing the real moments of everyday life amidst a semi-surreal narrative.

The movie features debutante Priyanka Ghosh Roy as the protagonist, around whom the story revolves. Swastik Choudhury has played a very interesting character, while filmmaker

Susant Mishra

has played a cameo in the film. The film’s music has been scored by Kisaloy Roy, whereas iconic rock musician and National Award-winning singer Rupam Islam has sung the title song.

Amartya has also made two Odia feature films and several documentary and short films. He has won the National Award for Best Non-feature Film Cinematography for his short, Benaras: The Unexplored Attachments.
