left a lot of animals homeless and helpless. These innocent creatures have nothing to eat and are starving. Besides, the extremely hot and humid conditions in the city is also affecting these animals badly. They need food and shelter. It would be good if people can come forward and help these animals in any way,” the actor said.

The cyclone, apart from devastating

, had caused massive damage to infrastructure and the green cover in the areas. Thousands of trees were uprooted or broken during the cyclone. And amidst all this, stray animals and birds have been hugely affected by the lack of shelter, food and drinking water.

Seeing Chandan’s goodwill gesture, many other animal lovers of the city have come forward and have been donating either money or food to organisations working for

animal welfare

. “We have been working in association with city authorities for animal welfare. We are glad that Chandan donated for a cause and after he spread the words, many people came forward to donate for these animals. These stray animals need urgent attention and rehabilitation,” said Sanjib Kumar Das, an

animal rights

activist.

It’s to be noted that Chandan is the only Odia celebrity who has been adopting animals in Nandankanan zoo and is paying the zoo authorities for better services to the zoo inmates. Last year, he adopted a royal Bengal tiger, Bahubali, in Nandankanan zoo for a year.
