Hindi language plays were the flavour of 8th Theatre Olympics on Monday. Renowned directors presented drama works like

Chaarudattam

and

Ashaad Ka Ek Din

at Bharat Bhawan and Ravindra Bhawan respectively. These two plays have even been parts of syllabus in schools and colleges for study of Hindi language.

Chaarudattam, an ancient Sanskrit play, written and performed in chaste Hindi was directed by NSD graduate

Ramji Bali

. It is essentially a love story between a Brahmin and a prostitute that ascends all barriers of the society to send a clear message of love. The performance was staged at Bharat Bhawan.

Soon after that, massive crowd thronged to Ravindra Bhawan to watch the famous Hindi play Ashaad Ka Ek Din. Directed by eminent theatre director

Bapi Bose

, the story shows epic love between poet Kalidas and his beloved Mallika, who go against the poets’ mother’s wishes to be with each other. The play was performed in front of a packed audience hall and received tumultuous applause at the end.
