Peter Cat in Bangalore

BT catches up with Peter Cat Recording Company, who will be performing tonight
Peter Cat in Bangalore
Peter Cat bring you a contemporary, electronic take on the folksy, acoustic genre that is gypsy jazz. Their music is laid-back and their tunes are catchy, so it's no surprise that they're catching on in the indie scene.
They have been in the music scene only for a year and a half. “I was studying in San Francisco and the other three (Karan Singh, Rohan Kulshreshta and Anindya Shanker) were already in a metal band,” says Suryakant Sawhney.

“I recorded a few songs with Karan and the other two joined in,” he adds.
With the aesthetic of the 90s music, this Delhi based band had not planned their music to sound the way it does. “It just happened and we like what we are doing,” says Suryakant.
Their influences range from laid-back electronica to Portishead and Bob Marley. “All of us listen to different bands and genres,” says Suryakant, who listens to Sinatra.
The band's namesake is a restaurant in Calcutta and Suryakant found himself influenced by the ancient fonts used in the menu, being the foodie that he is.
As far as making music goes, Peter Cat has a very interesting method. “We record our jamming sessions then listen to the recording,” says the vocalist. “So out of the 40 minutes, we get at least two minutes of catchy tunes that we all like and then we work on it,” he adds.
This is the band’s fourth visit to Bangalore city and they will always remember the previous one, as one guy claimed he wanted Suryakant dead. “One man was obsessed with Rohan and called him the Clint East Wood of India, he loved his bass playing,” he laughs. “He told me that I should die because I share the stage with Rohan!” signs off Suryakant.
