Bengaluru recently witnessed a period drama unfold on stage. The play — Quli: Dilon Ka Shahzaada — is based on the love legend of the founder of Hyderabad, poet-prince Quli Qutub Shah, and his beloved, danseuse Bhagmati, enacted by Noor Baig. Conceived and directed by Padma awardee Mohammad Ali Baig, the play is a blend of performing arts, shadow dance, period sets, costumes and qawwals of the Warsi gharana.
He also acted in the play. It takes the audience back in time to the 17th century Kingdom of Golconda. The play, a Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Production, was staged at ITC Windsor.
