I'm on my way to becoming the next big thing: Dhvani Bhanushali
Dhvani Bhanushali was recently in Bengaluru for a concert and her first-ever fan meet-and-greet. “I’ve always known I wanted to be a pop star and to see it all come true has been extremely rewarding,” says the Thank You God hit singer. In a chat with us, she discusses the “oomph” factor in her music that resonates with her fans, how she deals with online trolls and more. Excerpts:
‘SOCIAL MEDIA ALLOWS YOU TO TOUCH EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD’
We discover a lot via social media, including songs from every corner of the world. I know that catchy hooks, a strong visual presence, and captivating music are a winning combination for social media. I bring the whole package — a different vibe that makes me stand out.
‘AUDIENCES CONNECT WITH THE ‘OOMPH’ I BRING IN MY MUSIC’
I got into the process of making music videos about five years ago, and my journey so far has been incredibly organic. There’s a certain oomph to my music, a natural energy that resonates with people. I do a sad number here and there, but audiences seem to connect with the upbeat vibe I bring.
‘AS A PERFORMER, I’VE LEARNED WHAT MY AUDIENCE CRAVES, AND I DELIVER IT TO THEM’
I now know what kind of content my audience wants from me, and I deliver it. But does that confine me to a box? Not at all. Every artist cultivates a unique sound or style - their signature. They stick to it because it’s what resonates with their fans and brings in the views.
‘THERE’S AN UNGLAMOUROUS SIDE TO FAME’
Dealing with stalkers is thankfully not something everyone experiences in their careers. However, it is a very real threat, and I’m taking steps to ensure my safety. It can be scary, but I’m committed to not letting it control me. I have a strong support system around me, and I trust them to help if needed.
‘NOW, I AM NOT THE LEAST BIT BOTHERED ABOUT ONLINE TROLLS’
Busy people don’t have the time to spread hate and leave nasty comments under someone’s post. The ones who truly appreciate my music will connect with it regardless. The rest don’t matter, they’re not going to buy tickets to my show anyway.
‘YOU JUST CANNOT MATCH THE ENERGY OF A COLLEGE CROWD’
If you ask me the difference between performing in front of a live audience as compared to a college crowd, I would pick the latter. Most of the work is already done there, their energy is simply unparalleled. They can get absolutely crazy and that gives you a massive boost.
