Short stories always make an engaging read. And the excitement kind of doubles when a popular chapter from a book is adapted for stage. Theatre lovers in Bengaluru were recently treated to such an experience when actress-author Twinkle Khanna’s love story Salaam, Noni Appa from her book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad unfolded as a gripping piece of drama. Directed by actor and theatreperson Lillete Dubey, the new play, with the same title, is filled with interesting characters played by television favourites —

Jayati Bhatia

and Darshan Jariwala, alongside Lillete. The cast of the 90-minute English play, which was adapted for the stage by writer Adhir Bhat, also includes actors Meher Dar and Rishi Khurana.
The plot of the play revolves around a woman who finds love in the autumn of her life. The narrative technique is involving and peppered with just the right dose of humour, free spirit as well as relationships and vignettes of life that the audiences could relate to.
It’s not the first time that Lillete has brought a book-to-stage adaptation to Bengaluru. Last year, her play

Gauhar Jaan

, based on a book, titled My Name is Gauhar Jaan!, by city-based author Vikram Sampath, created quite a stir in the theatre circuit nationwide.
