Discovering Bengaluru on bicycles on World Tourism Day

this year, Bengaluru rode an extra mile to not just promote tourism in the city, but to also acquaint and educate its citizens with the state’s history and rich heritage. A first-of-its-kind cycling tour kick-started on Tuesday morning, where two groups of biking enthusiasts took to the road from MG Road and

Lalbagh

respectively. The ‘Tour around Bengaluru’ initiative was conducted by

Namma Cycle

in association with the

Karnataka Tourism Department

. The initiative — which also aims to spread awareness about the health benefits of cycling among daily commuters — covered as many as 12 locations around the city, including Mayo Hall, Trinity Church, Someshwara Temple, Madras Engineering Group, Raj Bhavan, GPO, Vidhana Soudha, Bangalore Fort, Kala Soudha, Bull Temple, Sringeri Shankar Mutt and MN Krishna Rao Park.

Speaking about the response to the initiative, Murali HR, from Namma Cycle, says, “We had a very positive and encouraging response from the people of the city throughout the tour. We touched upon some of the most important historic and heritage sites in the city. It’s a path-breaking initiative, through which we aim to put Bengaluru on the map of the most sought-after tourism destinations in the country.”
