A little over an hour-long performance would have

Deepti Sudhindra

and her

guru Padmini Ravi

taking the audience through a moving dance ballet inspired by the book God As A Customer, written by

AK Ramanujan

and David Shulman, this work addresses the history and context of Bharatanatyam and also takes a deep look into the erotic and sensual nature of devotion. Speaking about the show, dancer and designer Deepti says, "Through this performance, we have addressed the performance of

Kshetrayya Padams

or poetry inspired by the translations of AK Ramanujan and

David Schulman

. This repertoire is largely ignored by the architects of Bharatanatyam in post-independence India as the subject is bold, sexual and extremely sensuous."

The performance would kick off with Deepti communicating with the audience and in the long narrative taking them on a journey into the myriad of emotions including relationships, love and longing. "Also, understanding the history of Bharatanatyam and its influence on Indian cultural freedom and identity with a fresh perspective on the Devadasi system is what we have aimed for through this performance," she says.

Calling it haunting yet captivating, Deepti revisits the dance performance for the sixth time, but calls it unique and different from her previous performances. "This is the first time that there has been a seamless confluence of music, spoken words and dance, so it's very different in its treatment and presentation which is constantly evolving and that is the beauty of the show. It is extremely different form a traditional Bharatanatyam repertoire as here the spoken word and dance and music is live.

The Bharatanatyam choreography has been done by Padmini Ravi, music is by

Kartik Hebbar

and directed by Deepti Sudhindra. "This challenging performance would definitely make the audience think and would stay with them for a long time," wraps Deepti.
