Bengaluru’s supper clubs serve up more than just food
In the fast-paced life of a metropolitan city, where planning to hang out often gets lost between deadlines and commutes, supper clubs are offering a sweet respite. These intimate gatherings in Bengaluru blur the lines between dining and community, transforming the simple act of eating together into memorable experiences that combine food, conversation, and storytelling.
Introducing a new culinary experience
Sakaré is a dessert-focused supper club founded by Jenny in OMBR Layout. For Jenny, desserts are a way to tell a story. “I wanted to create a tasting menu focused entirely on desserts because it’s a new experience in India, and it allows me to showcase seasonal, locally-sourced ingredients creatively. The smell of baked goods, classical music, decor from my home and childhood in Andaman, and even interactive plating create an experience that makes strangers feel connected,” she says.‘A way to share not just dishes, but stories’
At Khado, a supper club curated by Kusum in Whitefield, every dish is a journey through Sindhi history and culture. “ The supper club began as a way to share not just dishes, but stories. Sindhi food carries our identity. It became very interesting to research all the stories—what happened to the Sindhis during Partition, and what happened to their food. I wanted to tell people about it in a small, intimate setting,” Kusum explains. She adds, “Each menu is carefully designed to reflect this legacy.”‘It’s about blending nostalgia with connection’
Kolkata-based Sagnik and Monami curated Tale of 8 in BTM layout to bring a slice of home to those living away from their roots. “Being from Kolkata, we wanted to recreate the warmth of Bengali cuisine and the comfort of a home-cooked meal for people who might be missing it,” says Sagnik. Their supper club, hosted at their own home, welcomes eight guests at a time for eight courses, blending nostalgia with connection. “It’s not just about the food—it’s about sharing stories, making new friends with a playful communal ritual at the end of the evening with a palm-shot mocktail,” adds Monami.A much-loved culinary community
Má Là Kitchen, a supper club in Central Bengaluru, founded by Aditya, brings the bold flavours of Sichuan cuisine to the city. “The supper club grew out of a longing to recreate the authentic tastes of Chengdu, the hometown of my wife, Dongli. I began experimenting in the kitchen during COVID-19, exploring the real flavours of Chengdu beyond the Indianized Chinese food we usually find here,” says Aditya. “The name Má Là means ‘numbing and spicy,’ a nod to the peppercorns and chillies that define the cuisine. We design a seven-course tasting menu that highlights true Sichuan classics. What began as intimate dinners for 2–3 people at home, often inviting chefs and restaurateurs, has since grown into a much-loved culinary community,” he adds.Test your taste buds
At Tasting Lab in Mahadevpura, every dinner feels like an experiment. Dhiraj Shah of Bunco Bakery has transformed his extra dining space into an intimate eight-seater where people come together to experience food. “The supper club thrives on novelty, offering dishes that don’t appear on the main menu of any Bunco’s outlets — from jalapeño-strawberry wings to other innovative creations — encouraging guests to taste, experiment, and discover together. Many dishes are finished live at the table, adding to the interactive feel,” he explains.‘It’s about the craft, not just the food’
In Indiranagar, Anurag’s home-turned-supper-club, Apartment, offers a unique fine-dining experience. Here, every menu is treated as a creative experiment. “It is designed for 24 guests per session, each with an à la carte menu. My goal is simple — each menu should feel at least twice as good as the last. We operate like a restaurant kitchen, but the backdrop is a living space, which creates an atmosphere that is both refined and personal. People in Bengaluru aren’t just here to eat; they want to experience the craft and see how far home cooking can go,” he says.Designed for connection
Simran, founder of Korea to India, a vegetarian Korean supper club in JP Nagar says, “Beyond the food, the intimate setting allows guests to truly connect. A lot of guests are new to the city or looking for something different from the usual restaurant scene. The space is for people to relax, eat, talk, or even enjoy the meal quietly if they prefer,” she adds. “Here, each menu blends familiar favourites with lesser-known dishes, curated seasonally to suit diverse palates,” she adds.end of article
