Despite a relatively warm Sunday morning, scores of running enthusiasts hit the road as part of the 2019 edition of Bengaluru

Marathon

that kicked off in the wee hours from

Sree Kanteerava Stadium

. Now in its sixth edition, the marathon witnessed around 17,500 participants across three categories — full marathon (42.2 K/km), half marathon (21.09 K/km) and (5 K/km).
Award-winning athlete

Reeth Abraham

was among the organisers of the event. Praising the enthusiasm among runners, she says, “We were expecting a breezy morning, but the weather turned out to be a little warm instead. However, this did not dampen the spirit of the participants, and we, in fact, recorded more numbers of runners and a more positive attitude compared with that in the previous editions. We also had a passionate 91-year-old participant, who took part in the 5K/km run.”

The route covered areas like

Cubbon Park

and Dr Ambedkar Road. Urging for more positivity towards marathons among city dwellers, Reeth says, “Marathons are a great way to keep a check on one’s health. Today, we had participants who defied their age and physical conditions to run a distance. Such examples should make people, especially youngsters, more open towards such events.”
