6,000 Dasara dolls bring underwater city of Dwarka to life in Basavanagudi

Veena Ravi has been collecting these dolls for 20-25 years
The underwater city of Dwarka has been recreated using over 6,000 Dasara figurines at Veena Ravi’s home in Basavanagudi.

“We’ve been collecting these dolls for 20-25 years. Every year, we curate a new theme, using the figurines to tell a different story from Hindu mythology. This year, we’ve chosen Dwarka, the holy city, which according to legend, was submerged under the Arabian Sea as Lord Krishna departed from the world,” she shares.

Apparently, this annual family tradition has become a local attraction, and sees about 100 visitors per day during the span of Dasara.
Preparation for the display begins months in advance. “We start arranging the figurines in August, ensuring every detail is perfect,” she says.
