Showcasing Tagore’s work through Odissi dance recitals
Dance buffs in the city were treated to some scintillating classical dance performances as Mahagami, a city-based dance gurukul celebrated International dance day in the city recently.
The two day dance festival –Vistar aimed at spreading the beauty of classical dance through their show wherein day one saw a group dance recital by Kathak dancers.

Day two saw Odissi group dancers presented spectacular compositions based on Rabindranath Tagore’s work.

The presentation commenced with Mangalacharan that was based on Bangla poem by Rabindranath Tagore on spirit of dance. The popular song by Tagore, ‘Mama Chitte Niti Nritye’ saw an Odissi recital by the dancers. This was followed by Jalbindu -a Sanskrit geetam on significance of a drop of water. Cherry to the cake was Mahagami director Parwati Dutta’s solo dance act based on Tagore's famous poem. The final group performance Vadya Pallavi –a researched reconstructed composition on Vadya tradition and rhythmic patterns of Odissi traditions was presented by all the dancers.
