AIFF wraps up its fifth year

The fifth Aurangabad International Film Festival held recently featured the best of the feature films from India and other countries.

The festival aimed to showcase the best of film produced recently and in the past, in India and other parts of the world, to the city of Aurangabad and its film buffs. This festival is a platform for aspiring filmmakers, technicians, artists and young film enthusiasts to encourage them to learn and understand artistic as well as technical aspects of cinema.

also aimed to highlight and promote Marathi cinema nationally and globally.


The opening ceremony of 5th Aurangabad IFF was held on January 18 witnessed filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar and ever-young actress Mrinal Kulkarni inaugurate the event. This was followed by the screening of festival’s opening film Rukh, in presence of its director Atanu Mukherjee.


Some of the best Asian films screened at the festival were Nafas (Breath) by director Narges Abyar, Negar by Rambod Javan, Yek Rooz-E Bekhosoos (A Special Day) by Homayoun Asadian, Desperado Square (Kikar Ha-Halomot) by Beni Toraty and so on. International films like Thinking Of Him by Pablo Cesar, Trampolin by Katarina Zrinka Matijević, I, Daniel Blake by Ken Loach and many more were screened at the festival.


The closing ceremony of the festival held on January 21, wherein jury announced the awards in Indian Competition section. The awards were presented by chief guest Padmavibhushan Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The popular actor-director of Hindi and Marathi cinema Amol Palekar was felicitated by Adoor Gopalakrishnan with a Lifetime Achievement award.
