It was an evening to remember for Amdavadis, with the magnificent Sarkhej Roza illuminated for the Sufi Festival, held as part of the celebrations of the World Heritage Week. Hosted by Arif Zakaria, Amdavadis were in for a musical soiree as the evening kicked off with the soul stirring notes by renowned singer Roopkumar Rathod. The central courtyard erupted with loud applause as he started the evening with
Khwaja Mere Khwaja.
The versatile singer, who was also celebrating his 25th marriage anniversary, dedicated his next song, the title track of
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi to wife Sunali Rathod, who was sitting in the audience.
After two more tracks -
Laga Chunari Me Daag and
Maula Mere Maula - it was time for the Sufi
qawwali group Nizami Bandhu to take the stage. So spellbound was the audience with the
qawwalis that the requests for an encore continued even after it was 10 pm. The Nizami group went on to sing a couple of more songs without the mic and were met with a huge round of applause.
This was certainly an evening that music lovers in the city will remember forever.
