Trupti Khamkar: Gurinder Chadha saw the character Maya in me and asked me to be true to her

and actress Trupti Khamkar, who has acted in several plays and online videos recently bagged a role in a British television series directed by

Bend it Like Beckham

filmmaker Gurinder Chadha. Talking about how she was cast in the show titled ‘

Beecham House

’, Trupti says, “A casting director Trishaan sarkar called me sometime in June this year and auditioned me for my character 'Maya'. He said that the production house would revert in three days. However, I didn't hear from them for more than a month. Trishaan said let's give up on it, but somewhere I was very sure it was made for me, and it was. Finally, end of July they called back saying you are on and I flew to London to shoot in next 12 days.”

Talking about working with Gurinder Chadha, Trupti says, “Gurinder Chadha has a great knack of getting the desired performance from her actors. The only thing she said to me was, ‘Let's be real and play along.’ She has the vision to cast the exact type of person that fits easily into the character. You will know what I mean when you watch Beecham House. She saw the character Maya in me and asked me to be true to Maya."

The fact that Gurinder Chadha saw Trupti’s funny sketches online and cast her in a serious role is interesting. When asked about it, the actress says, “Gurinder browsed the web and found my standup videos and the funny sketches, unfortunately all my serious and realistic work as an actor stays on stage so she didn't know that side of me. I love her for trying to cut the stereo type and give me a more serious part with a bit of comic relief here and there. The fact that she passed around my video link for other actors as reference for their character! That is overwhelmingly pleasant.”
Talking about her future projects, Trupti says, “I finished shooting for a web series which is in the post production now. I’ve also auditioned for a couple of Bollywood films hoping to hear from them. In the meantime, I am Writing my one hour of comedy in Marathi where I talk about how hopelessly single I am!”
