Kerala

singer

Arunaja Nalinakshan, who gained popularity because of the show

The Stage

and went on to sing for the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Manikarnika - The Queen Of Jhansi, has debuted in the independent music space with a single, Broken. The number has been written and composed by Arunaja.

Fusing her training in classical

Carnatic music

with western vocals, Arunaja’s song is about the loss of bridging bonds with loved ones, but she leaves it open to interpretation. The track is close to her heart, as it narrates her personal saga of not being able to connect with her father despite trying.

Talking about the song, the singer says, “Broken carries the weight of my heart and all the emptiness and sadness I have felt over the years. I don’t know how I had the strength to put this together, but I hope someone finds solace through this.”

Talking about the track,

Devraj Sanyal

, managing director and CEO of the music label that has launched the project, says, “Arunaja gave a breakthrough performance at The Stage, India’s only English

singing

talent show, and ever since then, there has been no looking back for her. She became one of my favourite contestants ever across the three seasons. She won my power pin, which is quite a big deal for a young kid who had never ever performed on stage, let alone national television.”
