Mumbai based singer-songwriter

Gwen Dias

’s new single, The Good Race, is inspired by Biblical verses. “This was one of the first songs I wrote. I was travelling in a train in Bombay when inspirational words of St Paul ‘Run a good race, fight a good fight’ kept coming to my mind and as I thought about them, the words of the verses just flowed. Inspiration comes at the most unusual times. All you can do is seize the moment,” says Gwen, as she explains how the idea of doing the

song

came about.

The singer’s works have been highly influenced by the

gospel music

since her childhood. She believes that singing in church choirs gave wings to her dreams. Ask her how she made the Biblical verses relevant to the current generation, and she says, “The millennials, who are constantly in the world’s eye because of social media, feel pressured a lot to be clones. And many of them lose their identity because of it. They have the answer to every question at their fingertips, but they are still left with a void, looking to find their purpose in life. I hope my song inspires them to never give up in this race of life, but fight hard till the end.”

Gwen attributes her musical influences to artistes from a diverse palette of genres like

Etta James

,

Aretha Franklin

, Sting, Stevie Wonder and Hans Zimmer. Her song, The Good Race, is an electro-rock song. She spent almost eight years writing the track.
