A woman from Alabama has withdrawn her civil lawsuit against Jay-Z and Sean "Diddy" Combs, in which she had accused them of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 years old. This decision, revealed through court documents, has brought relief to both artists.
According to ET Online, the woman initially filed the case in a Manhattan federal court, later amending it in December to include Jay-Z (whose real name is Shawn Carter). She alleged that in 2000, after being offered a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party by Combs' chauffeur, she was attacked by both artists.
Jay-Z, who had strongly denied the allegations and requested his removal from the lawsuit, called the case's withdrawal "a victory." He described the accusations as "fictional and laughable," stating that the claims were "frivolous, fictitious, and appalling." He shared on social media that the lawsuit had "no merit and was never going anywhere."
Meanwhile, Combs remains in jail in New York, awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. He is also facing multiple sexual assault lawsuits. According to ET Online, many of these cases have been filed by Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee, who claims to represent over 150 individuals accusing Combs of sexual abuse and exploitation.
Combs' legal team welcomed the withdrawal of the lawsuit, stating that since it was dismissed without a settlement, it weakens the credibility of the other cases filed against him. They argued that many of these lawsuits were being pushed forward for media attention rather than legal reasons. In a statement, they insisted that Combs "has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor."
Buzbee has not responded to requests for comment regarding this latest development.
Jay-Z and Combs have been influential figures in hip-hop since the early 2000s, building successful music careers and business empires. According to ET Online, the two artists have collaborated professionally multiple times, with Jay-Z appearing on Combs' first album, No Way Out, and Combs featuring on Jay-Z's second album, In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.
Both artists also founded major record labels—Diddy created Bad Boy Records, while Jay-Z co-founded Roc-A-Fella Records. They have often been seen together at public events.
Jay-Z has won 25 Grammy Awards, while Combs has received three. The recent dismissal of the lawsuit is seen as a legal victory for Jay-Z, while Combs continues to fight other serious allegations in court.
