The good news for American rapper Snoop Dogg’s fans is that according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) the summer hit California Gurls has reached the diamond figure of 10x platinum, which gives Snoop Dogg his first ever diamond certification.

Music history has once again been rewritten with Snoop Dogg joining an exclusive club of artists, who now have 10x platinum hits. Snoop Dogg, the uber cool rapper has thanked Katy Perry for helping him to achieve this rare recognition.
California Gurls’ first ever iteration was by the Beach Boys in 1965. In fact, Snoop borrows a line directly from the Beach Boys when he says “I really wish you all could be California Girls.” It’s no wonder since the catchy tune features Katy’s soothing vocals plus Snoop’s catchy rap verses.
According to Katy Perry, California Gurls was largely written as a reaction to the West Coast-celebrating song Empire State of Mind by JAY-Z and Alicia Keys. She wanted to write a song that would serve as a Californian anthem — particularly from the female perspective.
