Selena Gomez reveals which Taylor Swift song is about her: ‘It gets me emotional’
Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift’s friendship has been a legend in the music industry for a long time. The musical besties keep serving “friendship goals” every once in a while. And now, the ‘Good For You’ singer just opened up about one of the most meaningful gifts she’s ever received from her longtime friend, Taylor Swift, and finally set the record straight about which of Taylor’s songs is actually about her.
“‘Dorothea’ is about me, that’s one of her songs,” Selena said. She started reminiscing about how, when they first met, she was 15 and Taylor was 18, and both of them were just trying to figure out life: relationships, family, love, heartbreak, all of it. “We really didn’t know what was going on, but we’ve never seen each other any differently,” Selena said. Listening to “Dorothea” now, she’s just blown away by how Taylor captured it all.
Taylor’s lyrics say it best: “But it’s never too late to come back to my side / The stars in your eyes shined brighter in Tupelo / And if you’re ever tired of bein’ known for who you know / You know, you’ll always know me.” It’s friendship, plain and simple.
Turns out, ‘Dorothea’ isn’t the only song Taylor wrote about them. Selena shared another secret: Taylor wrote an unreleased song called ‘Family’ about their friendship more than a decade ago. The lyrics, Selena said, hinted at their big dreams: Selena wanting to act, Taylor wanting to play stadiums, and how they always believed in each other, even when those dreams sounded crazy. “Now, when I hear that song, it gets me emotional, because both of those things actually happened for us,” Selena said, admitting it makes her want to cry. “It’s the sweetest thing.”
And when it comes to sweet gestures, Taylor’s 30th birthday present for Selena is right up there.
The song between two besties
During a candid chat on the ‘Friends Keep Secrets’ podcast with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, Selena talked about the close bond they’ve had for years and revealed that ‘Dorothea’, from Taylor’s 2020 album Evermore, is inspired by their friendship.“‘Dorothea’ is about me, that’s one of her songs,” Selena said. The birthday gift that made its mark
Selena shared that for her milestone 30th birthday in 2022, Taylor painted a nighttime lake scene for her, complete with the moon and their star signs. Taylor even stitched a message right into the canvas: “Here’s to the next 30 years.” Selena described every detail on the podcast, how Taylor sewed each letter by hand, and how touched she was by the thoughtfulness. “It was the sweetest gift,” she said. Benny Blanco, who married Selena last year with Taylor in attendance, was floored by the painting, too. He joked he thought it was a Basquiat before realizing Taylor made it herself. “She’s better at art,” he laughed.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”end of article
