Sean "Diddy" Combs faces criminal trial: S*x trafficking charges could lead to life sentence

Hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs is set to appear in federal court on Monday as jury selection begins in a high-stakes criminal trial that could determine the rest of his life. After relinquishing a symbolic key to New York City last year, he now resides in a Brooklyn jail, awaiting trial just miles from where he was born. On Monday, U.S. Marshals will escort him to the Lower Manhattan courthouse, where U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian will begin questioning prospective jurors for what promises to be a closely watched trial.


Anonymous jury to be selected amid intense scrutiny and media glare

More than 150 jurors, whittled down from hundreds through questionnaires, will be questioned in person during the voir dire process. Both sides aim to finalize a panel of 12 jurors and six alternates. Due to the case's high profile, the jury will remain anonymous. Voir dire is expected to conclude by week’s end, with opening arguments scheduled for May 12. Prosecutors claim Combs orchestrated drug-fueled sex events known as “Freak Offs,” while his legal team maintains all acts were consensual and part of a shared lifestyle.

Opening statements loom as defense prepares to argue consent and lifestyle choice

If found guilty on all charges, Combs faces a minimum of 15 years in prison, with the possibility of life behind bars. The final sentence would be determined by Judge Subramanian after the trial concludes.
