Album: Feels So Good
Composer: Dionne Warwick
Music: Caroline Records
Rating: 3.5
Easy Listening: Dionne Warwick occupies a somewhat unique slot in the adult contemporary/ soul/R&B space. Her music is sounds urban enough to come across as what can best be described as ‘polished pop’ and although some of her musical backing does sound jazzy, it is far from jazzy.
This album, her 28th thus far, has been produced by Swizz Beatz, among others, including her son. Various other artistes feature in here, including Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, Gladys Knight, Jamie Foxx, CeeLo Green, Ziggy Marley, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Alicia Keys. Bucking various music industry fashions and trends, her singing style here is sparse, elegant and tuneful.
Playing this CD with the lights on low during a romantic interlude makes for a lovely choice. While most of the songs are sensitively and carefully produced, picking a few standouts can be a tricky task. But songs like Message to Michael (feat. Cyndi Lauper), Deja Vu (feat. Jamie Foxx), I’ll Never Love This Way Again (feat. Gladys Knight) and of course what was reportedly the album’s lead single A House Is Not A Home (feat. Ne-Yo) are some of the songs that do have repeat value. While this album is not her best, thanks to the fact that some of the glory is shared with her collaborators, it is a decent addition to your mood music collection.
