Dane/Pop/R&B: The track-list evokes a thematic sense that we’ve heard before in soundtracks like Guardians Of The Galaxy and various James Bond soundtracks. Most of the songs tie in fittingly with the erotic theme of the movie. Lush but not schmaltzy, the opening I Put A Spell On You, a Lennox cover of the 1956 song written by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins (also famously covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival in the 70s) blends smoothly into the dramatic Earned It (The Weeknd) which was also the first single off the record abroad.
1x1 polls
Haunted (Beyoncé) is a mix of hip hop, R&B, and dance-pop which, appropriately enough, features sexually-charged lyrics, eg: “You want me? Walk down the hallway/You’re lucky/The bedroom’s my runway/ Slap me!/I’m pinned to the doorway/Kiss, bite me...” We hear her again later with a newer mix of Crazy In Love which, of course, is a pure mainstream pop product. Another suitably sensual number is Ware’s Meet Me In The Middle. The Stones, known for their often suggestive songs (Brown Sugar? Under My Thumb?), have an unusual representation — Beast Of Burden is a plodding number and there could easily have been one of their many raunchier songs in here. Witchcraft is classic ol’ Frankie Blue Eyes. So all in all, we have a mix of contemporary and a sprinkling of the classic in here, which adds the right amount of balance. While it doesn’t push any boundaries, fans of this title will find sonic satisfaction in here.
