Originally from Canada, Reggie Benjamin is the kind of flamboyant singer whose first music video is shot at the Playboy Mansion (Hurry Up in 2001). 'Hurry Up' and his other single 'Ride' were both produced by Grammy-nominated producers Maurice Joshua and Eric Smoove. He has been doing everything from singing the national anthem at Dodger Stadium to appearing at clubs and venues in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York, hosting music and entertainment shows on television and starred recently as Aleem in internet soap opera The Bay.
He has collaborated with reality television contestant Sarah Kozer on the singles Crazy Freaky and Shine.
What’s keeping him busy these days is a far more noble cause. Reggie is visiting India this May for the song, Save Her which he wrote and produced with Grammy-nominated musician Eric Benet. The track is a call-to-action in the wake of the rape cases in India. Says Reggie, “It’s part of my campaign Mission Save Her. It was created after I heard about two young women who were raped and hung in India. I connected with the family and the Parliament to help bring awareness to their plight. Delving into the country's rape and trafficking statistics left me horrified. I reached out to some celebrity friends, including childhood pal Eric Benet, to help me on my mission to lower these statistics and make the world a safer place for women to live in.” International musicians Brian McKnight, Faith Evans, Marcia Ambrosius, Judith Hill, Ruben Studdard, Elliot Yamin and Shoshana Bean will be visiting India with him to promote the cause through their music.
Born in Toronto, Reggie was raised on gospel music. He and his family moved to Chicago where he spent his teenage years immersing himself in the city’s music scene. After graduating high school, Benjamin formed the band R.P.M. and played at clubs and live venues.
