TRIGGER WARNING: This article contains mention of death.
Grief looms over the English music industry, as Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds has passed away at the age of 51. Reportedly, he lost his life in a
motorcycle accident.
According to USA Today, a representative of the band Mastodon confirmed the news. In a social media post, the members mourned Brent Hinds and wrote, "We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief. … Last night, Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident."
“We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many,” the band stated.
Last but not least, showing their support towards the grieving family, the band mentioned, “Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone’s privacy.”
Remembering Brent Hinds
Brent Hinds is primarily recognized for his contributions to Mastodon, a band he co-established in 2000 with bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher, and drummer Brann Dailor. After many years of success, including a Grammy award, Hinds departed from the band this year. Initially, he announced the separation in a friendly joint statement, but later claimed he was removed from the group and criticized his former bandmates.
An Alabama native, Hinds originally played the banjo. Later, he traded it in for the electric guitar-heavy amp setup. He also lent vocals to several of Mastodon’s complex concept albums like ‘Leviathan’ and ‘Emperor of Sand.’
Though the artist is gone, his legacy will keep him alive in the memories of millions.
