Artist Lily Allen recently opened up about one of her most critically acclaimed albums. Talking about ‘West End Girl’ in a recent interview, the star revealed that she had a lot of anger in her life when the record was made.

Talking to ELLE UK about her fifth studio album, Allen revealed that she was not fully aware of her emotions when she was making ‘West End Girl.’ “It’s a really angry record. And it’s a lot more about rage directed towards other people. It’s not really about self-reflection,” she recalled.She further shared that she was dealing with a lot of things and emotions during a traumatic time in her life. All of these emotions translated into the record album. She added, “I think that if I’ve learnt anything about myself from it, it’s that rage is powerful and necessary, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing to express. In fact, repressed rage is arguably more damaging.”

Talking about the success of the album, the star revealed that after the album’s release on October 24, a lot of people reached out to her. She shared that many talked to her about their experiences with infidelity. “In my Instagram DMs, I get loads of women telling me really graphic stuff. Literally like, ‘My husband will be f---ing me in the ass while he is texting other women.’
It makes me feel so s---.”She further concluded her statement by adding that she made music in hopes that it would reach people and may also feel relatable to many. ‘West End Girl’ is about Allen’s marriage’s downfall. She was married to ‘Stranger Things’ star David Harbour in 2020 in Las Vegas. They later split in the early months of 2025.
