Iconic singer Cher takes legal action, files for conservatorship over son Elijah, deeming him financially incompetent

In recent legal filings, Cher has taken steps to secure a conservatorship for her 47-year-old son, Elijah, citing significant concerns about his capacity to handle financial matters due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues. Elijah, entitled to regular trust payouts from his late father Gregg Allman's estate, is at the center of Cher's worry that these funds might be directed towards substance abuse rather than essential living expenses.


The 77-year-old singer argued in the filed documents that she, as Elijah's mother, is the most suitable candidate to assume the role of conservator. Notably, two of Elijah's siblings have endorsed Cher for this responsibility. Cher also took a swipe at Elijah's estranged wife, Marieangela King, accusing her of hindering Elijah's efforts to obtain necessary mental health and substance abuse assistance.

This legal move follows a previous incident where Marieangela accused Cher of orchestrating Elijah's alleged kidnapping to compel him into rehab—an allegation firmly refuted by Cher. A court hearing, scheduled for March 6, 2024, will determine whether Cher will be granted conservatorship over Elijah's estate.
